Racial Tensions
Racial Tensions were huge in the 1920's. Many African Americans were dealing with unfairness, and some even mistreatment. Racism had a difficult time in many areas of society with people showing some flexibility for racist views in the media as well as literature. Organizations like the the Ku Klux Klan became established by a small group of rebels. However, the Ku Klux Klan became more and more extended because each member would create notes and send them to friends and family.

The Ku Klux Klan was very dangerous to many African Americans.
The name of this group had the equivalence of the devil in many eyes of the
blacks. The members would find certain African Americans and kill them for crime
or maybe even the smallest concern. These punishments would include being
linched, shot, whipped to death, tortured, beaten, set on fire, and more. This
group was not "undercover," however. These members would make it very clear to
society that being this color was not okay and the crimes that they committed had
to be stopped.

Jim Crow laws were created long before this time period. However, they still stand in the 1920's. The laws basically meant that people would have control over various things that the blacks could do, such as what water fountain they could drink from, or what spot is theirs on the bus, or even what bathroom they could use. No one really cared about the laws, it was more about the concept. The African Americans felt very dehumanized, as
well as discriminated. The concept of being looked down upon was getting on the nerves of the African Americans, and soon it will be settled.
